My Opinion on Carbohydrates

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

People very often ask me what I eat. I get it. They are trying to lose weight. I would rather they say that they really want to lose weight and be healthier. And then ask what I think they should eat to accomplish that. Either way, I am very happy to help and lend my advise. I have seen several take my advise and come back and thank me. I can't tell you how good that feels.

I will try to keep this very short. This may be part one of a several series blog.

Keep in mind I am NOT a nutritionist. This is purely my opinion from years of experience.

The first thing I tell people is to cut drastically back on the carbohydrates. The worst abused carbohydrate, in my opinion, is bread. I don't care what kind of bread it is, be it white, whole grain, wheat, or rye, we eat too much bread and can not burn it off. What happens if you can't burn it off? It gets stored as fat.

Pasta, rice, potato chips, cookies, ice cream, etc. etc. all contain a ton of carbs. Most people do not burn enough calories in a day to use all these carbs as energy. And if these products are in your daily diet, it does not matter if you go to the gym everyday either. It's better than not going, of course, but you still can not burn the carbs that are in these foods.

I tell people all the time that diet is 98% of the battle. You are what you eat. Absolutely true.

I had someone ask me the other day if they can still eat pop tarts after I told them about the carbohydrate factor. I laughed but they were serious. They didn't know. Maybe that should be a mandatory class in high school. Nutrition 101.

I'll get back to this in the near future.

Have a great day.
