FOCUS

What makes someone the best at what they do? Or at minimum, one of the best or at a higher level than the normal person? If I took a pole I bet I would get several different answers.

Talent. That seems like a very important element. Some people got it…some don’t.

Hard work. That’s been a cliché forever. “If you want something bad, you need to work hard for it!” Hard not to agree with that.

Determination. If you are determined to achieve something, no matter how times you fail, you will get back up to try again. Absolutely integral for success.

Luck. This is my least favorite element because it lends to the idea that somethings are just left up to chance—that we may not have control. But it’s hard to deny that some people appear to be lucky and be at the right place at the right time. Ever hear the saying, “It’s better to be lucky than good”?

Those 4 are no doubt important, and there are several more factors, but what I think it all boils down to is Focus.

Have you ever seen someone with laser Focus on their goal? I have. It’s almost a little scary. It’s like they walk around with blinders on; they don’t want to see or deal with anything that doesn’t help them achieve what they have set out to do. And you know what? That particular person got there. And still today that person uses their talents, works hard every day, shows enormous determination, and yes, seems to get lucky from time to time. But I think it was that initial Focus that put it all in play.

I have had Focus a couple times in my life. Those couple times were not laser-like Focus though, and what I got was about three quarters of my goal accomplished. Good but disappointing. It’s not easy. Sometimes to really, and I mean REALLY, get to where you want to be, you have to be selfish. Once you get older and have certain obligations, things get a little more challenging. But that’s just my perspective. If you can achieve balance and still have laser Focus on your goals, you certainly deserve for what you are striving.

So how do you acquire Focus? Is it something that can be learned? I don’t know the answer but I will guess and say, if you truly want something bad enough, finding Focus will not be a problem.

I hope that everyone who reads this and has a goal that they really want to achieve, will find their Focus. And if you do, please let me know.

Peace to all
